Choosing the Perfect White: Navigating the World of Paint Tones and Finishes

The Evolution of White:

Interior design trends have seen a shift from the cool tones of gray towards whites with a touch of warmth. While the desire for a fresh and crisp appearance remains, homeowners and designers are now leaning towards whites that exude a subtle warmth, creating inviting and timeless spaces.

There are so many gorgeous white paint colors to explore. Benjamin Moore's "Simply White OC117" is one of my favorites. Its clean, bright, and adapts well to various designs. Painting all surfaces the same color white creates a cohesive and unified look, and then the strategic use of different finishes adds dimension and interest.

 Playing with Finishes:

Varying finishes adds depth and visual interest to a space. My preference is an eggshell finish on walls, creating a soft and subtle texture, while a satin finish on trim adds a touch of sophistication. In most rooms, I opt for a matte finish on the ceiling. Depending on the natural light in your space, you may need to cut the paint by 10%-20% to ensure it's doesn’t appear dingy. This interplay of finishes allows each element to shine in its own right, while still maintaining the cohesiveness of that all white look.

 The Final Product:

You will have a clean fresh space where moldings, ceiling, walls, and trim all share the same white hue with the added richness and interest of a nuanced play of light and texture. Your space will feel cohesive, refined, and inviting.
